Course Description:
Fall Protection (4 hours)Falls from high places occur less frequently than slips and trips, but almost every fall from a high place is serious. Studies have shown that half of all people hitting a hard surface with a velocity of 18 miles per hour – that’s 27 feet per second – will be killed. This means that you can die from a fall of only 11 feet! By taking the time now to learn how to prevent falls in the workplace and at home, the life you save could be your own! Falls are a leading cause of accidental death in the country today, second only to automobile accidents. You could be the victim or the cause of a fall-related accident. Three common hazards are addressed in this valuable program: slips, trips, and falls; back injuries, and accidents; and accidents associated with the careless use of ladders and scaffolding. Your employees will participate in a course designed especially for their job duties and responsibilities. Among areas to be discussed may include: q Basic definitions q OSHA’s three standard fall protection systems · Guardrails · Safety nets · Personal fall arrest system q Acceptable fall protection for special defined situations · Warning line system · Controlled access zone · Safety monitoring system · Hole covers · Fall protection plan q General fall prevention precautions q A guideline for protection from falling objects This course is designed to assist the foreman, superintendent or supervisor with evaluating the worker’s performance when using fall protection equipment.
