Cal/OSHA 30 Hour Outreach Construction Course

The Cal/OSHA Outreach Construction Course provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. The program also provides information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. This is a voluntary program and does not meet training requirements for any Cal/OSHA standards.  However, some employers, unions, and various other jurisdictions also require workers to have this training to work on job sites and to fulfill their own safety training goals.  The Cal/OSHA 30-hour Outreach Construction Course is intended to provide a variety of training to workers with some safety responsibility.  Students who participate in the Cal/OSHA Outreach Construction Course will receive an OSHA student outreach card affixed with a Cal/OSHA partnership sticker.  In addition, they will receive a certificate of completion from the Pacific Safety Center.

Course Topics Include:

• Introduction to OSHA and Cal/OSHA
• Fall Protection
• Electrical
• Struck by hazards
• Caught in/between hazards
• Stairways and Ladders
• Personal Protection and Lifesaving Equipment
• Injury and Illness Prevention and Code of Safe Practices (including job site requirements and multi-employer issues)
• Health hazards in Construction such as: noise, hazard communication, lead, silica, asbestos, heat stress, confined spaces, and ergonomics

Additional selected topics covered based upon student needs will include: fire protection and prevention, materials handling, hand and power tools, welding and cutting, scaffolds, cranes and rigging, motor vehicles and heavy equipment, excavations, concrete and masonry, steel erection, and forklifts
